@litobayonito I agree with you on that point, he is the God of the OT. That still does not answer how Jesus(Son) was with the Father before the world was. I am not trying to read things into the scriptures, but the Trinity is clearly established several times. Paul wrote several times about giving thanks to God the father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why would he say this? If Jesus is the only one in heaven why not just give thanks to Jesus?

Jesus asked his father in John 17:5 to glorify him with the same glory that he had when he was with before the world was. @litobayonito - thats not so. I do have to be honest and say that I don't completely comprehend the Trinity. Having said that, I believe that scripture teaches it. The way that I understand it is that there is one God being that is God, but 3 persons make up the 1 being who is God. These 3 persons are not Gods but God. When I say that oneness denies the existence of the Son, I mean that they are denying that he existed in eternity past. He was just a plan. Correct me please if I am wrong.

Jesus is asking his father to glorify him with the same glory that he had when he was with him before the world began. Well I really don't have a problem using the word as long as we are clear on what we mean by the word. Again if it's 3 unique individuals or beings, I must disagree, but if you use it to describe 3 aspects of same being/individual I'm cool. My main problem with Trinitarians is that many of them don't even know what the trinity is. If asked they will simply state the father, son, hg and many will even say that Jesus is not God only the son of God and the HG is not God but only the spirit of God. My problem with this is that from your teaching, God is no longer a person but a substance possesed by 3 persons, giving you 3 persons who are God which seems to me to make God a committee of people or a pantheon of sorts, which in and of itself is pointless after you finish describing their relation to each other. In other words Jesus' Name baptism really doesn't save anyone. If you don't speak in tongues then the formula was useless. This is so confusing. There certainly is no other name or authority whereby we must be saved. However, it is not a formula that has power, but a person JESUS. I know Im saved because I have been transformed by HIM. Funny... there is no baptismal formula in the bible (maybe Mt 28:19). We are baptized to show we have put our faith in Jesus Christ. We are baptized 'in the name' of Jesus. Meaning in the 'authority' of Jesus. Not John the baptist, not Moses, etc. 'In the name' = with appeal to b)by the authority of c) on behalf of d) under the name or possession of e) under the designation of. Baptism is not salvational. The good tree will bear good fruit. A good tree is good because of the One who makes it good! (not the fruit, which is the demonstration of faith that James talks about!) We are righteous because of the Righteous One! Our righteousness, is as it says in Isaiah "filthy rags". Works don't sanctify us, they are a love response to being saved: "They that love me keep my commandments". You need to re-think the part works plays in salvation, because work righteousness in NOT salvation!

Here is my 2 cents. Trinitarians seem to use the non- Biblical words Trinity and persons to join together the titles Father Son and Holy Ghost as in Matt.28:19. Hi, I am Angel. I have converted to Pentecostal faith. I was a Catholic. Being a Catholic I realize there was a lot of confusion and my questions that I asked. The people looked at me crazy! @musicmusing-I also was a Minister in the UPCI. I agree with your comment on the day you left, and yes it is very hard on family and marriage, It cost me my marriage. God forbid you question anything even if it is a genuine question. I got out, but too late,my (ex)wife was already damaged and I was put in the middle by my so called superiors that were supposed to love us. I was told "Get your wife under subjection" Thank God for Grace and Mercy.10 yrs later Im still scarred.As are my children.

I am so glad I left the UPCI. It ruined my life, I was a UPCI preacher and pastor for many years. I finally woke up and threw off the weight of religion and theism. Unfortunately I lost a wife of 20 years before I escaped the destructive power of pentecost. I am so glad you left!

You got caught up with some fanatical nuts who don't represent Jesus and what Christianity is about. I grew up in that crap, & it almost destroyed me. I was a preacher's kid; a fate worse than death for a kid. Stayed away for a long time (56 yrs old now). Thru the years, I've come to know that being a Christian starts from the inside out; not the inside in. Don't let those nuts turn you into an atheist. One book does not represent the whole christian religion. Books, especially, are just an opinion of the author. If you don't agree with it, tell your pastor and ask him what the book means by it. Choose a different pastor if you don't agree with him on this stuff. All christians have different views on gender roles, etc.

Really, the day I left the upci was the day I left jail. This denomination is so hard on family life,marriage life, any life besides church 5 times a week. God is so good, so much more lovingkind than the upc presents. There is no real grace in the upc. Righteousness by faith is not taught. this leads to an extreme self analysis and self condemnation. The focus is so wrong . i am so glad for you that you left. The lord no doubt led you. Enjoy grace. Enjoy who God made you to be (yourself)

The most scary thing I ever experienced in the church is people flopping on the ground, and no one did anything about it. They assumed it was spiritual (whatever that is) instead of checking to be sure the person wasn't having a seizure.

When the Holy Ghost fell in Acts 2, 4, 8, 10 and 19; nobody had to ask "Can you sense It?" This is perhaps my greatest problem with our denomination: forced/feigned worship. I think this even trumps my distaste for the abuse/misuse of tongues. We recieve the Spirit by faith, followed by love and peace and joy, not fear because I have not cut loose in 6 months and I need a breakthrough or a public weeping session. Gotta have a sign. Well I grew up as a highly concervative Baptist, and the day I saw the truth and started attending a UPCI Church in Charleston, WV. Thank GOD for all of those fellow youth from youth congress, and church camp, becuase they were a blessing in my life, and when I hear people putting these people down, were not just another typical UPCI group. Purrtikat, amen amen amen! Sticking to what the Bible says, and not to what man fathoms in their minds to be the truth... God bless you! If anyone should be called a Pagan, it's those who worship the Trinity, because the Trinity was created by a Pagan, Tertullian, which the Catholic church accepted to be their doctrine about 300 years after Christ walked on the face of the earth. The word Trinity is never found in the Bible, so that is why I don't believe it! Man made that doctrine!

Great worship & Song! People, who cares about the lights. Some things just arent worth worrying about... The lights are one of them. Seriously. I am a young man & I do understand that some of the older generation may not agree with the lights, but then again.. isnt it supposed to be about God? Lets unite & support each other even if we disagree on issues that the Bible doesnt say is wrong. Preach the Apostles Doctrine - Withhold Biblical standards - everything else doesnt matter...
